Birding UNESCO Biosphere and World Heritage nature at Møn

Birdwatching in World-Class Nature

Birding in UNESCO Biosphere and World Heritage nature at Møn

Join Why Not Birds? on a private birdwatching tour on Møn and experience the exciting birdlife, unique nature, and dramatic landscapes – in Denmark’s only UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and at the UNESCO World Heritage site of Møns Klint. Møn offers a wide variety of fascinating birdwatching opportunities throughout the year. The island’s geographical location and diverse habitats create a rich birdlife. You will find shallow coasts, salt marshes, surrounding waters with small islands and islets, grasslands, coastal forests, rolling glacial landscapes, and steep chalk cliffs. There are many possibilities: Join a tour to some of the classic birdwatching sites on Møn – including Ulvshale and Nyord – or choose a tour focused on specific species or bird groups. In spring, we experience birdsong and the arrival of migratory birds; in autumn, thousands of waterfowl can be observed as they pass through and rest along Møn’s coasts and salt marshes; and in winter, there are overwintering geese, diving ducks, and birds of prey – there is something to enjoy all year round! Why Not Birds? offers full-day tours on Møn, visiting some of the best birding areas – only about two hours’ drive from Copenhagen. A full-day tour provides the time and space to cover a larger area thoroughly, explore multiple habitats and sites, and increases the chances of diverse and rewarding birdwatching experiences. If your time on Møn is limited, we also offer half-day or shorter tours lasting a couple of hours, for example as a morning or afternoon excursion, where you can still experience the birds in exciting surroundings. There are many options, and we always plan each tour according to the season, current bird occurrences, and weather conditions. The content, duration, and any special requests for the tour are arranged individually, so the experience can be tailored to you or your group. Biosphere, World Heritage, and Dark Sky The nature and landscapes of Møn are world-class. In 2017, Møn and the surrounding islands and waters were designated as Denmark’s first UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. In 2025, Møns Klint and the surrounding Høje Møn landscape were added to the UNESCO World Heritage List. In addition, Møn and Nyord are certified as a Dark Sky Park and Community, where you can experience the natural darkness of the night and the impressive starry sky. The area was recognized in 2017 as the first in the Nordic countries. Finally, a large part of Ulvshale – the Ulvshale Naturnationalpark – has been designated as one of the upcoming 15 Danish national nature parks. Why Not Birds? is proud to be an ambassador for both the Møn Biosphere and Dark Sky Møn & Nyord.
